भारत की बड़ी copper producing कंपनियों Adani, Vedanta और Hindalco ने scrap-based copper rods को national quality standards में शामिल किए जाने का विरोध किया है. यह मामला Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) द्वारा तैयार किए जा रहे नए standards draft से जुड़ा हुआ है.
कंपनियों का कहना है कि recycled scrap से बने copper rods और refined copper cathode से बने rods की quality और performance में बड़ा अंतर होता है. ऐसे में दोनों को एक ही category में रखना industry और consumers दोनों के लिए नुकसानदायक हो सकता है.

रिपोर्ट्स के अनुसार BIS फिलहाल industry stakeholders से feedback ले रहा है. आने वाले समय में:

International Energy Agency (IEA) सहित कई global agencies पहले ही चेतावनी दे चुकी हैं कि future energy transition के लिए copper supply बेहद महत्वपूर्ण होगी. ऐसे में भारत में copper standards को लेकर शुरू हुआ यह विवाद आने वाले वर्षों में और बड़ा मुद्दा बन सकता है.
